This art workshop, led by local artist Rachel Sutherland, is inspired by the work of Northumberland artist Matilda Bevan, whose work is on display at the Granary Gallery, Berwick upon Tweed TD151ES from 10th February – 5th May 2024. The exhibition is open Wed -Sun 11- 4pm, and entry is free.
Matilda Bevan’s image making often involves the use of monoprints. We shall explore various methods of monoprinting in the process of making our own images, inspired by her work on display in the exhibition.
The workshop begins with a short tour of the exhibition by Rachel, followed by coffee in the YHA conference rooms where the workshop will be held. Rachel will introduce the themes of the day and be there to advise and guide as you work on your own images.
We will break for lunch at 12.30 for 30 minutes, and you can order food from the YHA cafe downstairs, or bring a packed lunch. We will resume at 1pm and finish at 3pm.
Materials to bring:
There will be easels and tables available to work on, please bring your own board if needed. Please bring your own materials: robust paper, acrylic paints, brushes and pencils. Rachel will bring extra supplies and subjects to make prints with. You may also bring your own leaves, or seaweed from which to make monoprints.
