Shorebird Spotting: Guided Walk
April 11 @ 10:00 am – April 24 @ 12:00 pm
The Shorebirds Team will lead us on a two-hour guided walk. There is no charge for this event.
Space for Shorebirds Northumberland is responsible for conserving shorebirds along the whole of the coastline from Seaton Sluice to Berwick upon Tweed. Its main objective is to reduce the impact of recreation upon our nationally and internationally important bird populations. It also plays a vital role in conserving the beautiful flower rich dune systems and grasslands we are so lucky to have here on the Northumberland coast.
We will meet at the Little Beach Shelter, Berwick-upon-Tweed, at 10am on Tuesday, 11 April and, after an introduction from the rangers, walk the shore with plenty of stopping to watch and discuss the wildlife we encounter on the way. The team will talk you through some of the common wader species, their life cycle and the challenges they face, plus give you tips on how to identify them. This event is suitable for all. No prior knowledge is required.
Due to the nature of this event, places are limited to 12 only and so registration is essential. Please book your place on Eventbrite.
If you have binoculars do bring them along, however some scopes/optical equipment will also be available to share.
Dogs on leads are welcome.
Please note that although we will carry out a risk assessment for this outdoor event, it is taken wholly at the participant’s own risk. Therefore, participants are required to take full responsibility for their own health, safety and wellbeing whilst taking part. In particular, participants must ensure that they have suitable clothing and footwear. Waterproofs, warm clothing and boots are recommended.
Our Field Trips are generally accessible to all moderately fit persons, but not all will be suitable for persons who have reduced mobility. If in doubt, the onus will be on participants to establish the position in this regard before booking. During this event we will be walking over some uneven ground as well as along the shore.
In the case of extreme weather conditions, our event may be postponed. All those booked will be contacted directly by email should this occur.
There is no need to print out and bring your ticket, as we will have a record of your booking.
