Film: Summer Series

May 27, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - June 10, 2021 @ 6:00 pm

£9.00
Three talks about different aspects of cinema.

Our Summer Film series is organised in association with Berwick Film Society. It consists of three talks about film, on Thursdays at 5 pm. You can book for the full series here (£9); alternatively, you can book each talk individually (£4) by following the links below.

Week 1: We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Jennifer Coates as a BEA lecturer. Jennifer will be talking about the Golden Age of Japanese Cinema (1945-60), featuring directors such as Kurosawa, Ozu and Mizoguchi.

Week 2: Dr Martine Pierquin will provide a general introduction to the philosophical cinema of Austrian director, Michael Haneke, with a focus on his enigmatic and much discussed film, Caché (Hidden, 2005).

Week 3: Pasquale Iannone will will explore four films directed by Ida Lupino, including The Hitch-Hiker and discuss how Lupino merges some of the formal and thematic elements of noir with a ripped-from-the-headlines immediacy.

Lectures will be delivered via Zoom. If you haven’t used Zoom before, please go to www.zoom.us and look at the tutorials. Once you have booked, you will find the Zoom invitation in the Online Event Page on Eventbrite. You will also receive an email with the invitation 24 hours before the event. If you can’t find the invitation, please email berwickea@gmail.com

If you book this course online, we will hold your personal data in accordance with our privacy policy. If you do not wish us to hold your personal data, please book by post (see www.berwickea.org) and do not supply an email address.
